Public sector pensions review

Public sector workers across the country will be deeply concerned to have a review of their pensions sprung upon them on a Sunday morning – without proper consultation in advance of the announcement. They will be particularly worried given the comments by David Cameron and Nick Clegg in recent days about their desire for cuts to public sector pensions.

In order to persuade public sector workers that this is a genuinely independent review, the new government must make clear that the findings have not been pre-empted. And they must also ensure that the commission has proper trade union representation so that the voices of public sector workers are heard.
